Based on experimentation this morning, the best I think you’d get is for VoiceOver to announce the colour change. I’ve successfully got it to report Attribute changes based on the constants provided in the NSAccessibilityConstants.h file, but no luck with custom attributes. This means that, for example, you can’t make VoiceOver say “code” when it encounters an HTML tag.
This is extremely limiting in the case of your example and the application I’m involved in.
BTW, I’ve just attempted to work around this using the supported text attachment attribute, but I got no announcement of the string that I attached.
