Well, it is in the AppleScript extension, but you can't see it with Script Editor, Scripter or SD. You can only view it if you use Smile, which opens the "aeut" resource in the AppleScript extension. Other editors don't open it. They open "aete" resources. But you cannot be sure that all of the things that are in there are in fact implemented and working as indicated. Follow that at your own risk.



As far as the language guide goes, there's no "item" value class. It's
only mentioned as an element of objects of the list class.

That's right. And coercing something "as list as item" the way it was written a few posts back in this thread was resulting in the "as item" coercion doing precisely nothing.
