I don't know if it would change anything for you, but I wouldn't write the script so it relies several times on 'the entire contents of' and 'whose' that are known to be potentially broken when used together.
Better once get a list of all nested folders, and then loop through this list to increment your lists of files. Might be slower, but safer.
