Well, I don't know how, but I'm going to pursue this and see what
type of script I can come up with which will analyze the contents of
a script (particularly run-only) before running it.
This would be an excellent resource for the AppleScript Internet crowd. I've
downloaded countless scripts off the Web, and the only way I can check them
is by opening and reading (assuming they're not run-only). BUT, I'm a newbie
at all this, and I don't imagine it would be difficult for a sophisticated
scripter to slip something right under my nose.
I'm sure Eric over at AppleScriptCentral.com would LOVE to get his hands on
something like this.
Thanks for your enthusiasm. :-)
The problem with developing this type of script is that every command
which might trigger a warning can have a legitimate purpose. For
instance, I have a script which looks in the extensions folder to
make sure that ObjectSupportLib has not been installed (it causes
problems when running OS 9). If it finds OSL, it moves it to the
trash. This is the desired behavior, but it would still trigger a
warning from the checker. After reflecting on this idea, I'm not sure
that it's practical to continue development. I'll probably play with
if for a while, but its value will probably be limited to the
learning experience which it provides. <shrug>
