Thanks, Paul, that works. I can't imagine anything more unintuitive.
Well, only the first time, when you upgrade. Really it's a better system. (I
resisted for a while myself, and was able to because I had an "unblessed"
Documents folder which the installer couldn't find until I made a new
blessed one. Now I think it would like to be beatified, but I draw the line
there.) The Microsoft installers, where you just drag a folder to your hard
disk and then start a "first Run" which installs the rest) are much easier
and safer than other sorts of installers, specifically because they _don't_
replace anything outside your System folder. Nothing valuable that you have
can get lost or corrupted - at all. This applies to all your own, personal
files of all types. So you end up with both an old and a new application
file and folder when you upgrade. When you're sure that everything's OK with
the new version, you'll usually trash the old folder at some point (4.5 in
your case). Now if that one still had all your scripts - and your database -
you might trash it all. Disaster. Or if you had to move everything over -
scripts, sound sets, database, etc. - every time, there would be a lot of
muddle and things would get lost. Or if the installer did it, there would be
danger of error and irretrievable loss (especially if you had moved things
around).
This way, you had to do that just once. Now, every time you upgrade, you
won't have to touch or move anything. The new versions will just go on
accessing the MUD folder. It worked that way for people doing the
5.0-->5.01-->5.02 upgrades, and it's the same in Entourage. It's actually a
very good system, but definitely confusing when you do the changeover.
