Jason,

there is a shortcut in Illustrator to do this. What you need to do is set
the entire path property of a path item. The entire path may be specified
with a list of {x, y} points. For example:

make new path item in document 1 with properties ,
{entire path:{{25, 25}, {25, 80}, {100, 80}, {110, 115}}}

You can additionally set any other properties you're interested in.
