Well, just remember it loses a little something in translation from
Emmanuel's idiomatic French. I think there are worlds and worlds hidden
away in there: just take look at 'basic object': you could script an entire
application out of that (which Emmanuel has more-or-less done already, of
course). I don't know a tenth of what's going on in there. Take a look at a
few of the handlers in the class scripts that come with Smile, just to get a
glimpse of what he's up to. I don't think anyone but Emmanuel has any real
idea of the scripting power of Smile, and he's not too good at explaining
it. "abstruse" comes to mind as an alternate description of the
documentation. So it just sits there unused. Peter Fine and I hope to get
more of a handle on it one of these days, and see if we can explain things a
bit better - if we ever figure it out ourselves. (To see how far we've
managed to date, you can look at our review of Smile at Bill Cheeseman's
AppleScript Sourcebook website. But that doesn't get to the bottom of it,
not by a long way.)
I actually got Scripter as an early (or late) Christmas semi-present some
time ago, and I keep meaning to delve into it. But it seem like a major
project, so i haven't got around to it yet. There's always so much to do
first
Soon.
