smtp scripting addition help

Hello all,

I' m writing a script that has to send email without accessing an email
application. I'm trying out Mail osax, sendmail osax, and sendmail -t osax.
So far, the only one that will work is sendmail -t osax. I'm using identical
smtp and email info. Does anyone know whether the mail osax and sendmail
osax
need additional resources to run? Do they need to be called by another
application?
Thanks for any help on this - the ultimate goal here is to have retrospect
send its status messages to an administrator at a specific ip; and I would
like to bypass the need for a second application to send mail.

Cheri
