Testing Internet Connection

Hi all,

I posted this a few weeks ago but couldn't find a response. If anyone has
any new bright ideas I would love to hear from them!

The problem is I have a server and I'd like it to do at least 3 quick tests
to determine that the internet connection is established successfully. So
far all I can do is download a web page or ftp file (using URL Access
Scripting and check its contents/presence).

Is there a way that I can verify the internet connection by:
- sending test ping another server (PCMP) and retrieving a result that can
be validated
- sending an ftp test another server (FTP) and retrieving a result that
can be validated
- sending an smtp test another server (SMTP) and retrieving a result that
can be validated
- sending a telnet test another server and retrieving a result that can be
validated
- sending a tcp stream test a server (TCP) and retrieving a result that
can be validated
- sending a pop test another server (POP3) and retrieving a result that
can be validated

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for lending me your time and attention.

Regards

William Jamieson
