I agree with everything you said. Regarding privacy, I mostly was noting
that the list is not private in the sense of "secure".
Mostly, I am don't like the idea of Apple asserting ownership over the
content of the list, treating our intellectual input like their intellectual
property, and actively restricting our ability to use it to suit our
purposes.
I will have to go back and read the contract that is entailed in joining
this list. Like most people, when I post to the list, my intention is to
make those ideas free as in speech, and copy left, i.e., not to become the
exclusive property of a third party (Apple or anyone else).
If Apple intend enforcing "ownership" of these ideas I (and I suspect
others) will switch back to MacScript as the main avenue for communication.
Their list is publicly searchable at The University of Melbourne, and is in
most respects a superior list, except that Chris Nebel now graces the Apple
list, so we have a better source of inside information here.
