Jason,

Are you dealing with a navigational services dialog box that has a few
buttons on the top right that does things?

Yes. PreFab's Scott Lawton replied "Unfortunately that doesn't work in the "modern" file dialogs ("Navigation Services")"

If so I use Default Folder "SetFileDialogFolder" OSAX to get around it.
Default folder is a Shareware you can find it at VersionTracker.com

Also recommended by Scott: Up to now I didn't know they had a scriptable OSAX with the Default Folder product. I'll go check it out!
