One list member reported to me, apparently privately and so I will leave him
anonymous, that testing revealed a 10% to 20% speed advantage in favor of
the Berkowitz index-based approach after adjusting my "repeat with char in"
method to use Richard 23's improvement.
Isn't this list great! -- where else could you get help like this?
