IMO, the key is that Apple *has been* providing this language *since '91*.
(and that, already in '91 it was almost mature)
10 years is what was necessary for this revolutionary and powerful
technology to be taken into account by software writers.
IMO, it was quite a challenge to create a language (more of a meta-language
actually, or of a framework if you prefer) supposed to allow future
softwares to fully communicate with each other. This induces several
complex and abstract issues, which have been addressed successfully by
Apple.
IMO Apple won the challenge, thanks to the breathtakingly innovative
development by the AS team.
IMO, a brilliant work from Apple + 10 years evangelism = something probably
unique for long.
