How to grab the text contents of a clipping

  • Subject: How to grab the text contents of a clipping

I am attempting to set a variable to the text contents of a clipping
(text selection dragged to the desktop).

I have been able to accomplish it by opening the clipping file copying the
contents and then grabbing the text from the clipboard and placing it in the
variable. This is quite cludgy and I'm wondering if there is another,
simpler way of doing this?

TIA
