changing resolution in Graphic converter

finally got a digital camera and trying to get organized for large #
of files. I'm using GC to extract the EXIF data (so I can keep a
database of picture info) and to change the resolution so placing the
file into Indesign won't give a large preview.
The camera gives a 72 dpi, I want 300 (but without adding pixels)
setting resolution seems to add pixels and make big files. Thoughts
on where I'm screwing up?
'scuse the inelegance of some of the code. My workarounds when AS
syntax argues with my poor brain! I know I need to use coercion and
put onto end of strings...soon.
thanks
