get path, use path
I'm just illustrating that the two save commands are using an identical
path. The saving in the wrong/applications directory (and no result to
indicate so) is really weird, and I'm hoping somebody will see that and say
"that's because of blah blah blah".
I was at first getting "network file permission error" consistently on
tell document 1
save
end tell
so I'm just going through gyrations on the command. Now, I'm getting the
Applications folder thing.
Actually, the path is coming in as a parameter - i.e. one script pops open
the template file (via path), more scripts populate the template, and a
finishing one saves it out to the job path, and then sticks the path in SQL
Server Job table. Yet another makes a .PS of the active document for PDF.
At least, that's where I'm going, one step at a time.
The save issue is part of an application the artists use to open, browse,
and retouch current jobs. I'm putting together a floating palette they use
to save and return the document to the document management + PDF generating
+ PDF proof routing system. Since they do the work mostly by hand now, I'm
wanting to teach them to save through my application before I start having
an automoton do the basic first-step content fill-in, and save some time by
having SQL + my application handle tracking down the right job file, content
and changes from the proofers, etc...

MacOS 8.5.1
yeah, but I just bought 8 G4 733's for my artists. They have to run 9.2, so
this has to run on 9.2. X, well, whenever.

mount volume works for me
yes - have you tried this in MacOS 9.2 ? Its finicky...
in 9.0.4:
mount volume "afp://user:pass@ip/share" --works fine.
in 9.2:
mount volume "afp://user:pass@ip/share" --your mileage may vary
that's my issue... I have to use 9.2, 'cause I now have 8 G4 Silver 733's
to play with...
I have a similar script, I actually parameterized the name, pass, addr, and
share, and keep the values in a text file processed by a script-application
at startup (i'm thinking about encrypting the file somehow, haven't gotten
around to it tho...). if I want the system to require the user to type a
password, I don't supply one and it takes care of the rest.
do you happen to have access to some sort of document on what Keychains mean
and how Apple has implemented them throughout MacOS? I'm thinking that's
where my problem is, because I unlocked my keychain manually, and now my
save scripts work. I'm going to look into that more tomorrow...
thanks for the reply!
