coercing a list

  • Subject: coercing a list

Sorry for what I'm sure is a simple question.

Why does

{"a", "b", "c"} as string

yield "a b c" instead of "abc" ? Can it be made to omit the extra spaces?

I'd like to truncate a string using this statement

copy ((characters 1 thru ((number of characters in nn) - 1)) of nn) as
string to nn

but this behaviour prevents it from working.

Ray
