AppleScript on OSX stands a good chance of being a decent screwdriver, assuming that Apple does it anywhere near properly.

Apple management has not done right by AppleScript in the past though. That's why it has not been optimized and attended to in the manner it needs.

I agree that it should be faster. Warren did a lot of work to make it as fast as it was on the 68030 it was written on. I had a cx in my cube then. And technically, I believe AppleScript is fairly speedy at math. It is strings that suck because they are objects and do too many copies.
