Checking folder for RGB photos

This is a question for those in the print publishing business (yes, we're
still around). How does one scan a folder full of photos (usually all done
by Photoshop) and determine if any have been left in RGB, meaning they
weren't correctly changed over to CMYK? I have come up with a solution for
EPS photos, which involves fetching the first 500 characters of each,
scanning for the phrase "DocumentProcessColors" and if that doesn't exist,
then usually that means it's been left in RGB. However, this doesn't work
with TIFF or JPGs as they don't have the same file formats as an EPS. I was
wondering if there is a more elegant solution out there.
