I have a question - I would love to abandon MS Word as totally as

with me.

So, the question becomes - is there conversion tool out there that can
convert
Word files (with Tables intact, and I mean intact as columns and rows of
cellular
text information) to Apple Works or BBEdit files?

Steve Jobs suggests...

Update to the latest AppleWorks 6.2.2
The AppleWorks 6.2.2 installer automatically senses which version of the Mac OS youre running and installs the proper version on your Macintosh. If you use Mac OS X, the program installs AppleWorks 6.2.2. For Mac OS 8.1-9.1, the program instead installs AppleWorks 6.1.2. Both share a common feature set, but are optimized for the different operating system versions.

Both versions include file translation services for Microsoft Word and Excel documents.

Mac OS X v10.1 users should update to AppleWorks 6.2.2 for added compatibility and performance enhancements.

And if so, can I
expect the
same level of power in the search/replace functionality that Word has (or
more)?

I don't care about whether style sheets are properly preserved, just the
text
characters.

Thanks in advance for any help.
