OS X dictionary gripes

Hi

I seem to have hit a curious display bug in Script Editor 1.7/OS 10.1.1. I resized a dictionary window to 837 by 687 pixels & saved that as the default size for new dictionary windows. The next dictionary I opened showed up blank, with the contents only appearing when I zoomed the window or resized it manually. Tried a slightly smaller default dictionary window size... same thing. Experimented with the default width a little and found that all sorts of interesting things happen when I click on the resize handle without moving the mouse - try it, then select one of the dictionary headings and try it again. Most unpleasant.

To cut a long story short. I found that new dictionary windows would not display properly if the default width was set to more than a paltry 500 pixels.

And while Im on the subject, that window for choosing dictionaries from is woefully underpowered. Sure, its great to have all the dictionaries presented in one place, but why is the window so small. And why cant I set a larger default size for it, or at least have it open the same size as it was when I last used it. Pah.

My apologies if these are widely known and discussed issues, but Ive only had my hands on a copy of X for just over a week now.

BTW - The main thrust of my AppleScript experiments has been devoted to combating the X-Finders woeful inability to remember the positions and view settings of my folder windows. If anyone knows of a source of simple tips & script examples for manipulating Finder windows in X, Id be grateful to hear of it. Ive made some progress by reverse-engineering Apples toolbar scripts and squinting at the Finders dictionary, but Im starting to develop persistent headaches as a result. And needless to say, none of the above is helping me to actually get any work done...
