You don't need to turn on file sharing. Just enable program linking over
TCP/IP in the file sharing control panel. You can leave AppleTalk off even.
If at some time you have to many workstations in the Chooser, consider
setting up Zones.

But I think better would be to simply have the clients' scripts pass along
information to one server running a script. Set the client script with one
username and password and make it run only. You don't need to turn on any of
the client sharing aspects then.

That has worked for me.
