Custom icons can be pasted onto AS applets in X, but I found that they did
not show up reliably until I had logged out & back in again. Same thing
happens with volume & disk icons. This minor annoyance is probably just
another of the many loose floorboards and exposed wires in X.
For any serious work with icons, BTW, I would heartily recommend
'Iconographer', which (like several other sturdy shareware survivors) has
made a swift and seemingly effortless transition to X.
On which note... has anyone else noticed the uncanny resemblence between the
introduction of OS X and the catastrophic events that brought an end to the
age of dinosaurs? The Aqua world has been scrubbed clean of all the richness
and diversity that went before, but there amongst the glowing rocks and
barren, sterile landscapes, nimble, compact, adaptable life forms are
thriving and proliferating. Perhaps 'Classic' should be renamed 'Mesozoic'.
