List folder problem

Using OS X and AS 1.7, I've encountered a situation where the "choose
folder" command, given a perfectly valid folder alias, errors saying, "Can't
make [folderpath] into an item".

Actually, I've seen a similar problem with "duplicate every item in
theFolder". In this case, I had a number of left-behind Word auto recovery
files in the folder. When I deleted them, the "duplicate" command worked
just fine.

Anyone else seeing something like this?
