You can use Interarchy to do this. (The command is Applescriptable.)
However, I don't think you are going to have an easy time of it. First, you
have to sign in to the NY times, which is a problem to automate. Second, the
site will have many, many pages and MBs of data and take a very long time
(possibly hours) to fetch if you have a dialup connection. Third, I think
you will find that even after downloading all these megabytes, you will
still have to go out to the Internet to get some of the site content.
At least, that has been my experience. I wrote a shareware helper app for
Interarchy that can schedule downloads of entire web sites, but I found that
it just wasn't worth it for newspaper sites for the above reasons. (It's
good for sites with static pages, though. One customer downloaded his
state's penal code with it.)
If you still want to try it, as someone has said, IE's subscription feature
should do what you want.
