Tell that to the guy who wrote the "ASCII character" osax command
from Standard Additions.
Because of those "Standard" commands, it has become fairly common
AppleScript practice to say, "ASCII character ..." and "ASCII
number ...". Pretty much everyone knows what the're talking about.
