Yes it can. If you open up Smile's own Script Window script in its Class
Script folder, you'll find a handler SaveAsDroplet (which actually will save
as droplet or applet according to choice), which demonstrates how to do it.
Some of it can be omitted for general use, but don't forget

PutResource +data shor0001; to newf type "pref" index 128

using the Satimage osax.
