Anyone tried using File Verifier (OS 9 encrypt)?

Hi..

While idly wondering about increasing the security of my Palm contacts (by
encrypting the data file, so you'd have to enter a password to get at them)
I looked at the scripting for Apple File Verifier, which in 904 lives in
the Applications folder. (Apple File Security, its encrypting form, doesn't
have scriptability - perhaps to save people from encrypting stuff in a
run-only script and not being able to decode the result.)

Anyway, the dictionary is sparse..
Signing Suite: Signing and Verifying files.

verify: Verify the specified file(s)
verify reference -- File(s) to verify. Can be a single alias or a
list.

open: Open the specified file(s)
open reference -- File(s) to open. Can be a single alias or a list.

Right. So I encrypted a file, keeping the password off the keychain. It
decodes fine when I give the password by double-clicking in the Finder.

But a script...

set thefile to selection
Verify thefile
--> this file does not have a signature. Verification failed [or some such].
Open thefile
--> this file does not have a signature....

Huh?
Verify thefile with password
Open thefile with password
--> this file does not have a ... all right already!

So what's going on?

Yes, I know about Akua Sweets encryption SA, but thought I would
investigate what's already provided in AS.

Charles
