Just saw this on macnn and thought some here might want to check it out.

...AsyncKeys! is a utility that displays a keystroke or key combination9s
exact keyboard reference number and its ASCII equivalent. The name
3AsyncKeys!2 comes from 3Asynchronous keyboard reading,2 which is the
ability of the computer to read the status of a pressed key without waiting
for it to generate a 3keyDown2 event. Note that if you change the layout of
your keyboard (e.g. from 3U.S.2 to 3French2) the ASCII character may change,
but the keyboard reference number will not.
