using AS with QuickKeys to do things in non-scriptable app?

I'd like to have a script that processes files that are put into a 'watch' folder and have some questions.

First, I think I'd like to have Folder Action Script execute whenever a new file appears. This script needs to launch an application (ImageJ) that only supports the required suite. ImageJ should then process the file and produce a different file file that would then be placed in a specific folder. Finally, the script should move the original file that evoked FAS into another folder or perhaps the trash.

I'm not sure how to get ImageJ to do its thing with the input file(s) under AS control. It does something different than just open the file, and uses its own internal methods to do it. I have QuickKeys, but I'm not sure how to have the Folder Action Script launch a QuickKeys macro that would handle the interactions within ImageJ. Furthermore, the script needs to wait for ImageJ to finish its work before eliminating the original file.

Can anyone give me a lead on how to use an AppleScript to launch the QuickKeys macro?

Also, I've installed Folder Action Plus (and restarted), in order that the 'watch' folder not have to be open for the FAS to launch, but I'm not sure whether its working correctly. I created a simple proof-of-principal script that I then placed in the Folder Action Scripts folder and attached to the 'watch' folder. I dropped a file into the (closed) 'watch' folder, but my script didn't launch. What am I missing here?

If no graceful method for doing all of this exists, should I be looking at other means (perhaps OneClick) to handle this? I don't have OneClick, but if it or any other tool offers a solution I'd look into getting it.

Thanks.
