Hello,

For a short term solution:

Use a client-side send mail script that substitutes
"(alert: substitute option-return)" for the offending
character.

Then use a client-side receive mail script that
replaces the offending character for
"(alert: substitute option-return)".

Something like this maintains a great degree
of read if they do not use the decoding
script.
