Hi all :-)
I consider myself a newbie (u'd laugh if u saw my scripting efforts,
especially considering how u lot seem 2 whip off scripts so easily).
I agree that the server mangling sucks, it IS confusing, (*at first*) but u
lot r all so apologetic about it that i'm prepared (seriously, thanx).
However, i find that with many scripting examples posted (im a lurker - part
of a silent majority???) i either dont have 2 make a single change, or would
have 2 change the script anyway (because of file paths for instance).
I've downloaded R23's ConvertScript & will use it when i actually post a
script, it aint that hard 2 use, & if nothing else i'll know that R23 will
prolly reply with some advice (GD&R). All of ur suggestions r great, &
appreciated... but r we making a mountain out of a molehill (uh-oh *putting
on fire proof suit*). Most newbie scripters r either desperate 4 an answer &
will do the work, or come from a scripting style background (hmm... i dont
have the stats on this with me right now but... is it getting warmer???) & r
somewhat in tune with the vibe, as it were.
I'm no net guru either *sigh*, but would it be possible 2 connect Cal's
suggestion (er... list?) 2 this list via the apple lists simply by changing
the address of the list in the apple servers? No privacy problems as apple
still controls the addresses of customers, no mangling as Cal's server has
already been tested & given the TICK. It would also free some space on the
apple side of things. I already suspect that it wont work bcause no-one has
suggested it (& u scare me with what u lot know), but i thought why not?
i hope i have expressed myself comprehensively (?)...
*keeping fingers crossed*
Nick
BTW: this was the 1st email list i ever joined & is still my favourite, i
enjoy reading it, & learning from it, & i think for this newbie the
"quality" of the people on this list far surpasses any technical glitch. For
what it's worth u lot make me WANT 2 learn more about applescript (even tho
i have no pressing need). In my book ur heroes, & altho a little OTT, i
really DO mean it. :-)
