Tony,
A guy called Lawrence D'Oliveiro from New Zealand has developed
precisely what you're looking for. Using Resedit, you map a keystroke
combination to an Applescript, which in turn can do whatever you want
it to do, such as launching an App. The keystrokes, I think, are
combinations such as cmd-shift-3, which takes a snapshot of the
screen; so you would use something like cmd-shift-5.
I ave used it in the past on systems 7 and 8, don't know how it works
on 9 or X. Check it out on
http://www.geek-central.gen.nz/sw/index.html#ScriptKey
Can I set one of the function keys on the keyboard to activate a program
like scripteditor. I have 8.6 and the keyboard panel doesn't have that
ability. I know the newer macs do, but can I still do it with AS or C or
even with Resedit. I've played with the KCHR resource for the keyboard but
it only allows for changing of single characters. I don't know how to map
it to an alias or icon.
Thanks,
Tony
