Michelle Steiner asked:

> Is mailman available to the general public? if so, where?

It is indeed: try

http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/mailman.html

It's written in Python (as a Perl person I'll try to restrict myself to
parenthetical and somewhat constricted boa hissssssssssssses), so you'll
need to install a relatively recent version of that first. Looks like
unixesque machines only, a set which might just produce a non-zero
intersection with apple branded OS's in about a month.

It certainly looks like a good replacement for the venerable majordomo,
which is beginning to sag around the jowls. There's been a majordomo 2
coming out for quite some time, and some folk are still working on it
somewhere. In fact, you can read about it and contrast/compare it with
what's in mailman here:

http://hpc.uh.edu/majordomo/#mj2

Cheers,
Paul
