Thanks, Chris...that (plus the parts I didn't quote) explains very nicely
why some
<computation> as integer
commands failed to produce errors when they "should" have. AppleScript is
trying to help (and thereby sometimes hiding the fact that a result isn't
exact).

That paragraph sounds as if I disapprove: in the AppleScript environment,
I don't. (In a language for "programmers" I would.)
