WWCD has done in MW Tokyo!
The first event in the world has done.
"On The Air" (
http://www.airmac.org) an Apple users group had held a
demonstrative event. "AirMac" is the Japanese local product name of
"AirPort" due to the registerd name confliction :-).
"On The Air" held a survey in setting of AirPort software in each
broad-band ISP in Japan. Broad-band ISP has several server system setting,
so Japanese users have to setup the AirPort in each ways.
We had planned the event to let to know usefullness, easyness and
functionality of the AirPort and AppleScript.
The event was named "WWCD" it means "the World Wide CD open festival". It
may sound like "WWDC" but they are quite different each other :-)
I explained the mechanism of remote procedure call in MacOS and how to set
it to the audience in MacWorld Expo Tokyo.
There was an interesting technical view. I opened iBook's
CD-ROM drive via the AirPort wireless LAN.
Two keylime iBooks joined the event, and a Tangeline iBook retired on the
way due to the unlucky error in scripting system :-).
Demonstration of WWCD had done in 4 steps,
Step1:
Connect to AirPort base station
Step2:
Mount the master iBook's HDD and copy "AudioCDgh" scripting addition to
client iBook's HDD
Step3:
Write "eject cd" script on each client iBook and execute it.
Local test had done!
Step4:
Master iBook execute "eject cd" script via AirPort wireless lan.
Each iBook's CD-ROM drive opened!!
The audience gave us a lot of applause. The event needed 40 hours due to
the setting trouble in AirPort base station. The station had a serious
setteing to avoid the access of unexpected client.
Japanse Macintosh user didn't walk away from there until the event had
finished. I was sure that Japanese Mac user are one of the most kind and
heartful people in the world. I thanked to them very much.
And we had some VIPs.
Mr.Ian D.Ritchie, QuickTIme Engineering manager visited our booth and said
"This event is very interesting! Please send me email about this".
Mr.Peter Hoodie, known as former QuickTime chief architect and now working
for Easel, visited our booth ,too.
Sorry Ian...I 'll write you an email after editing the movie of WWCD. And
the movie will be public to the Macintosh users all over the world...
Our catch copy was "You will enjoy AppleEvent at Apple's event!"
In fact, the event had held by IDG not by Apple:-)
