Back to scripting now.
I wonder if anyone has already encountered a problem that has plagued
me for
awhile. I'm working on a script that extracts a resource as string and
do all
sorts of manipulation with it. This involved dealing with ascii char
(0) -
adding, getting the offset of etc.
The script by itself works well, but just showing ascii 0 in SE's
event log
window or SMILE for example can lead to unpredictable results, from
displaying
a whole junk in place of each character to crashing whatever editor.
At first I thought the culprit was the osax - and I've bothered more
than one
author, sorry :) - until I find today that it has nothing to do with
it.
So, is this a known bug, am I the only one to encounter it, is there
any
solution?
No, I'm glad you mentioned it. About 3 or 4 weeks ago I reported that
calling ASCII character 0 crashed Smile using OS 9.0.4, and nobody else
confirmed it - about 4 or 5 people said they had no problem.
Well, I confirm it.
And so do I. It's a bug in AppleScript, and will be fixed in the next
release.
