situation is, performance-wise, when the script is a compiled script run
from OSA Menu or an application's script menu.
Ahh! Good question. The timing package that I put together can be run
from any number of contexts:

You could run the script from Scripter, Script Editor, OSA Menu etc. etc.
While I didn't do any testing at all from an application scripts menu I did
test OSA Menu and found it to me consistently faster than any other method
of running a script that I tested. (Although I haven't installed it on 9.1
yet). On the systems I did test calls in finder tells maintained the
slight advantage.
And we are speaking of an ever so slight advantage. Repeating an OSAX call
100 times in each context would typically show a difference of 5 to 10 tics
(each tic is 1 60th of a second). In 9.04 and earlier the slight
difference went to the finder in 9.1 the slight difference went to outside
the finder and in 9.1 the both sets of execution times were shortened.
I sent the timing package to Dan at MacScripter.net and it should be
available there:
