That is surprising. Perhaps you should delete some preferences and start
over.
You can switch the PPP and TCP/IP settings directly by using the commands
included in Network Setup Scripting, which is in the Scripting Additions
folder in your system folder. Use 'Open Dictionary' in the Script Editor's
File menu (or just drop NSS onto the Script Editor's icon) to view the
contents of the dictionary.
The AppleScript guidebook module on networking contains several sample
scripts that you could adapt to your needs. You can find it at:

Just don't try getting the status of a remote access/ppp connection in one
of your scripts. That's broken at the moment.
