Yes, thanks, this is indeed what appears to be happening - sort of.
The values I got (which were in mm) correspond to these point values
exactly. However I *have* been setting the margin values of documents as I
created them (i.e: make new document with properties ... ). Perhaps a
solution might be to add the half point value to the left and right margin
values at creation time? I wonder if this (bug?) is consistent enough to do
this?
