A quick glance at a number of applications - BBEdit, Quick Time Player,
Script Debugger, Fetch, Outlook Express, Entourage, and even Apple System
Profiler - show that they all have this 'save in alias' error. So I suspect
that Apple itself must have promulgated it incorrectly in the Standard Suite
SDK.
The good news is that in the newest Apple apps for OS X, they seem to have
discovered the error and fixed it. In TextEdit and Mail, this appears:
save: Save an object.
save reference -- the object for the command
[in string] -- The file in which to save the object.
[as string] -- The file type in which to save the data.
as it does in OmniWeb, too. So Apple may now be promulgating a corrected
Standard Suite. (Of course, that hasn't stopped the OS X versions of QT
Player and Apple System Profiler from still getting it wrong.)
I have been assured this evening that the OS X version of Entourage's
dictionary will correct 'alias' to 'string'. That also means that if OE is
ever updated, it will be corrected there too.
