I'm writing a script to extract stylesheet info from a Quark document and
write it to a tab-delimited text file, so I can then import this into
Filemaker Pro for easier study. As a beginning scripter, I've run into a
couple elementary problems.
1) What method would you recommend for creating, opening, writing, and
closing a simple text file from my Applescript? Are there 3rd party OSAX
that ease this simple text file management task? Or should I use the
scriptability of some other text editor (e.g., Tex-Edit) to accomplish the
task?
2) My first attempts at opening, writing, and closing a file ran into
errors after the file was opened but before the script closed the file. The
result was a file sitting there open on my desktop (i.e., unable to open
again, to delete, or whatever). How do I close this file without restarting
my Mac? Does force-quitting the Finder do the job? Any less drastic way
(e.g., via Applescript)? More importantly, how can I avoid this situation
in the future?
