I'm sure this has been beaten to death on this list, but I didn't see it in

tutorial in which it teaches you how to make them. And a sort-of realted

Apple to tell me how to actually get OS X installed on my beige G3, but I
assume that most of the commands are the same in Apple Script for 10 right?

Assuming you're talking about how to write your own scripting addition, which involves actual compiled code, the reason you didn't see it covered in the archives is that applescript-users is the wrong list -- you should try applescript-implementors.

Most of the information you'll need is in Tech Note 1164 <http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn/tn1164.html>. I believe there's also a skeleton scripting addition project in the AppleScript SDK.
