If memory serves, the cure is to upgrade to a newer CarbonLib than the one
which came with Mac OS 9.1. (The same day the 9.1 upgrader appeared--in
January--a newer CarbonLib appeared to replace the one in 9.1. My memory
is trying to tell me that that one cured the problem, but it could be
wrong.)
However: the current version is 1.3.1...for some people it seems to cause
an array of problems (for me, it has caused no problems--at least none I'm
smart enough to see). The common "cure" for 1.3.1 has been to downgrade
back to 1.2.5. You might want to insure that you have a source who can get
you a copy of that before trying 1.3.1.
CarbonLib 1.4 should be out fairly soon now (there keep being new beta
releases of the related Carbon SDK...presumably Apple intends to ship
someday).
I don't think I have anything older than 1.3.1 lying around except on old
backup tapes.
