[OS X] Anyway to hide an applet after launch?

Hi again,

Related to my other question, is there anyway to hide an applet after it has
been launched in OS X? My thought was to find the name of the frontmost app
prior to it being launched, then tell that app to activate.

Thanks for any info,

Don
