Actually, I have a setup similar to yours, with OS X on a separate (fourth)
partition, but within the official folders. All my classic apps are in the
blessed Applications (OS 9) folder on a partition called Apps. All my
documents are in the blessed Documents folder on a partition called Data,
which also has some other stuff. My OS 9.1 System folder (for booting and
Classic within OS X) is on its own OS 9HD partition. I have an alias to the
OS 9.1 System folder on both the Apps partition and the Data partition. I
have an alias to the Documents folder on the Apps partition, and an alias to
the Applications (OS 9) folder on the Data partition, and aliases to both
Documents and Applications (OS 9) on the OS 9 HD partition. Everything works
perfectly, including Microsoft apps which always want to be on the system
partition. They all think they're on the system partition. Aliases are
great. just once something was odd, so I rebuilt the desktops (lots of
them!) and all was well.
I originally installed as normal, then moved the the Applications (OS 9) and
Documents folders to their own partitions, deleted the originals, and made
the aliases. (At one point I had backup copies of the apps on an older
installed disk - big mistake,. I'd get the second instance opening when I
double-clicked a doc that had been made with it. No good. You only need one
copy.)
