I use AppleEvents extensively with REALbasic. I cannot confirm that the
resulting application is any faster that using AppleScript but it is very
flexible indeed. There are some AppleEvent inadequacies in RB (you can for
example receive a date as a return) but there are just about always
workarounds.
In REALbasic you can also import applescript functions to be used in the
application. This is great if you don't want to learn how to build
AppleEvents.
I am far from convinced that using AppleEvents is any faster than using the
corresponding AppleScript.
If anybody is thinking of using this combo I strongly recommend getting Alex
Klepoff's excellent RB AEGizmo plugin, it can save hours of work and
headaches.
