Deivy,
OK, it does work when run from Script Editor & I'll take your word for it
on the OSA Menu. This is all & well, but Mr Wilkinson is not having
trouble running it in either of these 2 ways.
Richard,
if you felt in any way my message was rude, I sincerely apologize.
That was not my intention. However, you did say the method did not
work, and I felt it would be nice if I corrected and let users know
that, it indeed does. It goes with no claim of stability or being
better than, just that it does work.
Many readers of this list, if not all, use it to learn. I do! So if
I see something that it is not right, the least I could do is correct
it.
I made a mistake in my previous post. I had replied to the original
post, stating that the script worked and sending the working version.
That reader chose to ignore my e-mail, and that was his problem. I
was stepping out of it. This is why I wrote "I am replying because of
this line". I felt I could right something and furthermore, let
people know about the read only files that accept being written to
even if they are opened (I found out by myself and never read it
anywhere. You know, AppleScript is not well documented...).
Given that intermittent failure is what's happening in the script under
discussion, I'm suggesting that using the command in the documented way
might be a good place to start trying to work out what's wrong with it.
Rather than assume it is working, let's try to prove it & see if we can
actually get the script working for him.
I did not assume, I tested. I just tested with iDo and it works.
Again, if you felt that the tone of the e-mail was rude and directed
to you, I apologize.
Cheers,
Richard Morton
