One of the properties returned by "info for" is the default application. Is
there any way to set this using AS? You can set the creator and file type
for a file with the Finder, but 'default application' doesn't seem to be in
the Finder's list of file properties. I want to have a text file created by
a script open by default with TextEdit instead of SimpleText, but TextEdit
doesn't use creator/file type. The only way I have found to do this is to
clear the file's creator and file types to '????' and add a .txt file
extension. (Ugh! I sure hope Apple changes this. It's fine to have file
extensions take the place of the hidden file type as an option, but it is
very unMaclike to force the user to name a file in a certain way.)
Note that you can do a "Show Info" on the file, go to the Application panel
and set the default application there manually. Surely there must be some
way to do this automatically? (On the other hand, if you tell TextEdit in
its Preferences to save files without an extension, you then can't open them
by double clicking - the files have no knowledge of their creator, and the
Finder has no way of knowing either.)
Thanks,
Don
