I just wanted to thank everyone who contributes to this list.
Learning to AppleScript has been a desire burning deeply in my gut for a
couple of years now. I was able to start the quest seriously early this year
with my attendance of TecSoft's "Workflow Automation with AppleScript" in
Dallas, TX in January, 2001. [Aside: Thanks, Jerry. It was worth the $1,500
even if my company WAS kind enough to foot the bill.]
Light bulbs have been slow to come in the past, but let me tell you: I have
had epiphany after epiphany in the past 2 weeks in the process of creating
my most ambitious script to date. [I have JollyRoger, Michelle, and others
to thank specifically.] I have now experienced first-hand what I've heard
some of you call "Feature Creep". *laughing*
I'm sure some of you know the feeling, but, for example, it's hard to convey
the immense satisfaction that came from using my first line of coersion code
and the wall this helped me break down. Crazy thing is, I didn't really know
how to write that syntax per si, but my brain had picked it up sort of under
the radar. Next thing I knew, I was displaying some dynamic data in a dialog
box.
So, the point of this post is to express my deepest appreciation for the
help you've given this new scripter. A proverb I once heard applies
perfectly here:
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
TEACH a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime.
Be well all of you.
And I hope to one day be able to give back to new scripters the knowledge
you've all given me.
